BERKELEY, Calif. - Outside hitters Marcus Skacel and William Curtis each had 13 kills and sophomore middle blocker Paul Bocage added 11 as No. 8 Stanford breezed past California 30-13, 30-17, 30-23 at Berkeley.
The Cardinal, which rested starters Seth Ring, Curt Toppel and Brett Youngberg, hit .380 to remain unbeaten in four matches (including two exhibitions). Bocage led the way with his 11 kills and a .770 hitting percentage, while Curtis contributed three service aces. Skacel had a .450 hitting percentage and enjoyed an excellent passing match. Billy Strickland and Doug Johnstone led the defensive effort with five digs apiece, while Jonathan Anderson had four digs in a game and a half as the starting libero.
Stanford, 2-0 in its regular season contests, opens MPSF play this Sunday, Jan. 21, when it hosts No. 1 Pepperdine at Maples Pavilion. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
