With today's win over #4 UCLA, Stanford notched its third straight winover a top-5 team (2001 vs. Oregon, 2000 vs. Texas). Today marks the Cardinal's seventh win in the last eight games and sixthwin in the last seven Pac-10 games. Stanford's 5-1 start matches its bestsince 1992. Under Tyrone Willingham, Stanford is 18-3 when it has a running back rush forover 100 yards and 28-5 when it outrushes the opponent. Stanford is also 14-2when it rushes for over 200 yards. Stanford has scored 24 times in 30 possessions inside its opponents 20-yardline this season. UCLA has won three of the last five meetings with Stanford. Bob Toledo is 3-3overall vs. Stanford. Stanford's Brian Allen continued to move up the Cardinal's all-timerushing leaders list this week with 87 yards today. Allen passed Jon Volpe (`87-'90)and Vincent White (`79-'82) to move into sole possession of 8th placewith 1,741 career rushing yardage. Cory Paus' threw his first interception in 198 attempts (dates back tolast season) during the second quarter (Stanford's Ryan Fernandez interceptedthe ball). Before the interception, UCLA was one of only two schools (Ohio University)in Division 1A to have not thrown an interception this season. Today's 64,495 attendance is the largest home attendance in a non-Cal or non-Notre Dame game since the 1992 season when 72,571 fans attended the Nov. 7 game against USC. Stanford's three touchdowns in the second quarter is the first time this season that UCLA has allowed any opponent to score more than once in a quarter (25 quarters). Stanford is 17-6 in its last 22 Pac-10 games dating back to the '98 season. Stanford's 38 points in today's game are the most given up by UCLAthis season (previous high was 17 by Kansas (9/8) and California (10/20)). Cardinal Ryan Wells' 52 yard catch in the second quarter marked the secondstraight week, Wells has caught a pass of 50 yards or more. The last time Stanford scored 28 unanswered points was in 1999 (Sept. 18) againstArizona when the Cardinal scored 30 unanswered points. Cardinal Louis Hobson had his first career interception in the third quarterof today's game. The Bruins are now 4-1 vs. ranked teams this season. UCLA has won 14 of itslast 19 games versus ranked opponents dating back to the 1997 season. Stanford kicker Mike Biselli's field goal in the third quarter were thefirst points given up by the Bruins in the third quarter this year. Stanford win today snaps UCLA's six-game winning streak. DeShaun Foster's season totals: 188 carries for 1,007 yards. He gained1,000 yards faster than any tailback in UCLA history. (Karim Abdul-Jabbar gained1,000 yards in eight games in 1995.) UCLA quarterback Scott McEwan had career-high numbers today going 15 of 24 for221 yards with two touchdowns. The Bruins three interceptions against the Cardinal is a season high.
