Berkeley, Ca - Tony Azevedo scored three goals to lead the top-ranked Stanford water polo team to an 8-4 victory on Friday in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament at Cal's Spieker Pool.
After being tied 2-2 at the end of the first period, the Cardinal exploded for six straight goals in the second and third period to ease to victory.
Nick Ellis collected eight saves in goal.
On Saturday at 2:00 p.m., Stanford (18-1) will play sixth-ranked in the championship semi-finals. Long Beach State is coached by Rich Azevedo, father of Tony Azevedo.
