The No. 1 ranked Stanford men's volleyball team fell to No. 5 Pepperdine tonight, 3-2, in Malibu, Calif. Game scores were 30-25, 30-25, 22-30, 26-30, 11-15. Stanford falls to 6-1 overall, 3-1 MPSF while the Waves improve to 7-2 overall, 3-2 MPSF.
The Cardinal won the first two games hitting .324 and .355 as a team but the Waves stormed back to take game three and four hitting .522 and .533 respectively to force a fifth and deciding game.
Stanford was led by Marcus Skacel who had a team-high 17 kills and 14 digs. Teammate Curt Toppel added 16 kills while Billy Strickland had 13 kills on the night. Seth Ring added 12 digs for the Cardinal. Josh Lukens led the squad with 46 assists.
Pepperdine was led by Lance Walker's 17 kills and Scott Wong's 15 kills. Chris Van Reusen had a match-high six blocks on the evening. Keith Barnett had a match-high 51 assists for Pepperdine.
The Waves outblocked the Cardinal 14-7 as Stanford outdug Pepperdine 42-30 for the match.
