Santa Barbara, Calif. --Stanford (9-0, 0-0 MPSF) began the day with a 19-5 win over Hartwick before handing Long Beach State a 9-1 loss. Team leader Brenda Villa continued her offensive prowess with seven goals on the day to help the Cardinal outscore its opponents 28-6 in today's two games.
Stanford continued its defensive power in the first quarter, allowing no goals today and only four this season.
Stanford's victories over Hartwick and Long Beach State advance the Cardinal to tomorrow's match-up against MPSF rival USC in Game 21. USC and Stanford are both undefeated, with the Cardinal grabbing the top spot in the polls while the Trojans are ranked third. The winner of Game 21 will advance to the championship, while the loser will compete for third place at the tournament. Stanford will play either UCLA or California in the second game on Sunday.
