SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --Stanford (11-0) knocked off No. 3 USC (10-1) 13-12 in an overtime match, handing the Trojans their first loss of the season. Brenda Villa took control, scoring six goals to lead the team. Stanford and USC were tied at 10 at the end of regulation, but the Cardinal scored three goals in the second overtime period to grab the victory and advance the Cardinal to the championship game against No. 2 UCLA.
UCLA (6-2) defeated No. 4 California (5-4) 6-2 to advance to the title game against the Cardinal this morning, but Stanford ended the Bruins four game winning streak with a 10-7 loss. Villa added four more goals on the day, bringing her weekend total to 17.
Stanford returns to action when it hosts USC in an MPSF match-up on Fri., March 2 at 7 p.m.
