HONOLULU, Hawaii - Sixth-ranked Hawaii pulled off its second three-game sweep of fifth-ranked Stanford in as many days late Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Warriors prevailed 30-26, 30-25, 34-32 to improve to 11-3, while the Cardinal fell to 8-4.
Hawaii hit .343 for the match, and held the visitors to just a .151 team hitting percentage. Sophomore Curt Toppel (Pacific Palisades, CA/Loyola HS) led Stanford with 17 kills.
The Cardinal nearly extended the match to a fourth game when it took a 29-24 advantage in game three. The Warriors, however, reeled off the next six points and went on to win the game 34-32.
Next week, Stanford (5-3 MPSF) travels to Southern California to take on #3 UCLA (12-4, 6-2) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and #12 UC Irvine (5-9, 3-6) on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
