Erica Sorgi And Adam Peterson Top Cardinal Finishers At NCAA Zone E Diving Meet

Stanford, Calif. - Erica Sorgi (women's 1-meter, 270.25) and Adam Peterson (men's 3-meter, 505.00) were the top Stanford divers on the first day of the 2002 NCAA Zone E Diving Meet hosted by Stanford at the Maas Family Diving Center on Thursday. USC's Blythe Hartley (322.20) and Arizona's Omar Ojeda (582.80) won the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter events.

The top three divers in each event automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships March 21-23 in Austin, Texas.

Sorgi automatically qualified for the NCAA's along with teammate and third-place finisher Ashlee Rosenthal (264.55). Other Cardinal divers in the women's 1-meter included Kim Powers (5th, 253.25), Lauren Donovan (9th, 242.00), Alexis Sowa (10th, 238.70) and McKenze Murphy (12th, 236.80).

Brigham Young's Justin Wilcock (553.10) and Arizona's Joshua Anderson (521.30) finished second and third in the men's 1-meter to join Ojeda in automatically qualifying for the NCAA's.

Jesse Fonner (13th, 451.60) and Brian Ferris (16th, 424.20) also competed for the Cardinal in the men's 3-meter.

The 2002 NCAA Zone E Diving Meet continues with the men's 1-meter and the women's 3-meter events on Friday (12:00 p.m.) before concluding with the men's and women's platform on Saturday (11:00 a.m.).
