TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Three Stanford gymnasts competed in Saturday evening's Individual Event Finals at the 2002 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala., highlighted by sophomore Lise L?veill?'s (Burnaby, British Columbia) sixth place finish on balance beam at 9.838. Sophomores Kendall Beck (San Antonio, Texas) took eighth place honors on vault with a 9.7630, while Lindsay Wing (Cypress, Texas) finished 12th on beam at 9.750.
Lise L?veill?, the eleventh scheduled competitor on balance beam, recorded a 9.838 to take sixth place honors overall on the evening. The Cardinal sophomore, who was named to the 2002 All Pac-10 squad for balance beam, earned a 9.875 in Thursday's session to tie for fourth place overall. L?veill?, ranked 10th nationally on the apparatus, collected seven first place event finishes for the Card in 2002 and her 9.950 against Arizona on Feb. 1 represents the highest Stanford beam score this season. L?veill?, who was also named a Second Team All-American selection on floor exercise as a result of her 9.875 showing in Thursday's evening session, finished tied for second place overall with a 9.900 score on floor exercise at last season's NCAA Championships and garnered First Team All-American status. Elise Ray of Michigan won the event with a 9.925.
Competing from the ninth position, Kendall Beck earned a 9.7630 score on the vault finals to finish in eighth place overall. The Cardinal sophomore registered a 9.900 on vault for a second place finish in Thursday's evening session of the NCAA Championships to advance to Saturday's national finals, and as a result was awarded First Team All-America honors for the first time in her collegiate career. Beck was Stanford's most consistent performer on the vault in 2002, and posted the team's top score of the season at the SunTrust Mardi Gras Madness Invitational on Feb.15 with a 9.925. Beck, a 2002 Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention honoree, posted scores of 9.900 or better on vault on five different occasions this year. UCLA's Jaime Dantzscher captured the event title with a 9.9560.
Lindsay Wing competed eighth on the beam finals, netting a 9.750 for a 12th place finish overall. The 2002 Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention selection qualified for the event finals with a 9.875 on Thursday evening, good enough to land in a fourth place tie for the session. Her 39.500 All-Around mark at the NCAA North Central Regional Championships helped catapult Stanford to an NCAA Championships berth. Wing scored a 9.900 or better on seven different occasions this season and snagged nine first place finishes. The Cardinal sophomore was just as impressive last season, earning First Team All-America honors on beam (9.925) and All-Around (39.275) and Second Team All-America accolades on floor (9.875).
Stanford capped its most memorable season in school history Friday night, finishing sixth overall with a 196.025 in its first-ever appearance at the NCAA Super Six.

The 2002 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship will be aired on a tape-delayed basis on Sunday, April 28, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. PDT on CBS. Bonnie Bernstein, Amanda Borden and Dominique Dawes will provide the broadcast chores.
