Scott Lipsky/David Martin Fall In NCAA Doubles Final

May 27, 2002

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Stanford University juniors Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) and David Martin (Tulsa, OK) dropped a three-set heartbreaker in the final of the 2002 NCAA Doubles Championship on Monday evening at the Texas A&M Tennis Center.

The second-seeded Cardinal team fell to unseeded Andrew Colombo and Mark Kovacs of Auburn 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

"We came out firing away and were down 5-0 before we knew what hit us," Martin said. "They had a couple of lucky breaks on points here and there during the match. We started coming back in the second set. We broke (Colombo) twice in the second set and we felt like we were right back in the match."

Despite the loss, Lipsky and Martin earned All-American honors for the second straight season. The Stanford juniors reached the NCAA Doubles Semifinals last season in Athens, Georgia before losing to the eventual champions.

"It was definitely exciting to play in the championship match," Lipsky said. "It was something I'll remember forever."
