Stanford, Calif. (AP) - Paul McAnulty doubled twice and drove in three runs and Daniel Eisentrager pitched six solid innings as Long Beach State defeated San Jose State 6-3 on Friday in a first round NCAA Regional game.
Brad Davis, Jeremy Reed and Mike Hofius also each had two hits as the second-seeded 49ers (38-19) won their eighth straight and 10 of 12 overall.
Gabe Lopez and Hector Zamora hit home runs on consecutive pitches from Eisentrager to give the third-seeded Spartans (45-16) a 2-0 lead.
Eisentrager (10-3) did not allow a runner past first base afterwards. He allowed five hits over six innings in winning his fifth straight. Carlos Muniz pitched two innings and Chris Demaria pitched the ninth to seal the victory.
Matt Durkin (11-3) allowed four runs _ three earned _ on five hits over three innings as his three-game winning streak came to an end. He walked three and struck out one.
Long Beach State took the lead with three runs in the third. Kevin Randel and Reed walked ahead of McAnulty's two-run double. David followed with an RBI single. McAnulty extended his hitting streak to 16 games with the hit. He doubled home another run in the eighth.
The 49ers scored an unearned run in the first when Nick Orlandos came home on a throwing error. Hofius hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Bryan Baker hit a two-out home run in the ninth for the Spartans.
San Jose State, which had a four-game winning streak snapped, set a school record in wins this season.
The Stanford Regional is the only one of the 16 four-team tournaments across the country to feature four nationally-ranked teams.
