CS Fullerton Eliminates San Jose State From NCAA Regionals With 9-1 Victory

Stanford, Calif. (AP) - David Fischer homered and drove in two runs and Jordan DeJong pitched a complete game as Cal State Fullerton defeated San Jose State 9-1 on Friday in an NCAA Regional elimination game.

DeJong (11-3) shut down the Spartans (45-17) to pick up his first win in four decisions, scattering six hits and allowing just one run to end San Jose State's season.

Shane Costa scored twice and had two hits for the fourth-seeded Titans(37-21), including an RBI single in the third that gave the Titans a 3-1lead.

Jahseam George (9-2) allowed five runs, four earned, in six and one-thirdinnings as the Spartans committed three errors in the ballgame.

Cal State Fullerton took an early 1-0 lead on Jeff Comfort's RBI single inthe first, but Kevin Frandsen tied it with a single of his own in the bottomof the inning.

The Titans came back to score twice in the top of the second when NickFitzgerald tallied one of his two runs on a San Jose State error and Costafollowed with his single, driving home David Munoz.

DeJong escaped his most threatening situation in the fifth after theSpartans loaded the bases with two outs. He induced Frandsen to groundout tosecond to get out of the inning.

Cal State Fullerton added one run in the seventh, three in the eighth in atwo-out rally and one in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

The Spartans, whose season ended with their second loss in two days,finished the year with a school record in wins.
