CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Stanford's Scott Lipsky and David Martin advanced to the doubles semifinals of the 2002 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American with an easy victory on Friday afternoon at The Champions Club.
Top-seeded Lipsky and Martin, who are two-time doubles All-Americans, posted an impressive 8-1 win over eighth-seeded Carlos Lozano and Erik Nyman of BYU. Lipsky and Martin, who advanced to the ITA All-American Final last year, will face Richard Barker and William Barker of Rice in Saturday's semifinals at 2:00 p.m. (PT).
In the consolation singles draw, both Martin and freshman K.C. Corkery posted a pair of victories to reach Saturday's 6:00 a.m. (PT) quarterfinals. The semifinals will follow at 11:00 a.m. (PT).
Martin, who was seeded eighth in the singles main draw, won by walkover in the first round when Tennessee's Wade Orr withdrew because of illness. Martin then received a second round bye before posting an impressive 6-2, 6-4 third round win over Chris Lam of UCLA. The Cardinal senior will play 16th-seeded Brian Wilson of Illinois in the consolation quarterfinals.
Corkery, who reached the main draw with two qualifying victories, opened the day with a 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory over Nathan Price of Arkansas. The freshman received a second round bye, before eliminating Florida's Oliver Levant 7-6 (6), 6-4 in the third round. Corkery will face Carlos Palencia of UC Santa Barbara in the consolation quarterfinals.
