CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Stanford senior David Martin (Tulsa, OK) captured the consolation singles title at the 2002 Icy Hot/ITA All-American Men's Tennis Championships with a straight set win over Nic Boeker of Georgia on Sunday morning at The Champions Club.
The eighth-seeded Martin defeated Boeker 7-6 (6) 6-2 to post his fifth victory in three days. The Stanford senior did not lose a set in his five consolation bracket victories.
In Sunday afternoon's doubles final, top-seeded Martin and Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) dropped an 8-5 decision to third-seeded Michael Calkins and Amer Delic of Illinois. Lipsky and Martin, who are two-time doubles All-Americans, were making their second consecutive appearance in the ITA All-American doubles final.
Stanford returns to action on October 26-29 (Saturday-Tuesday) when it travels to the Omni Hotels Regional Championships at Saint Mary's College in Moraga.
