K.C. Corkery/James Pade Win Omni Hotels Regional Doubles Championship

Oct. 29, 2002

Stanford freshmen James Pade (Woodside, CA) captured the 2002 Omni Hotels Regional Doubles Championship on Tuesday afternoon by defeating two of the top five seeds. In fact, seventh-seeded Corkery and Pade beat the No. 2, 3, 5 and 10 seeds in just over 24 hours to win their first career collegiate title (singles or doubles).

Corkery and Pade were locked in an all-Stanford final against redshirt junior Carter Morris (Washington, D.C.) and sophomore Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA). The Cardinal freshmen defeated fifth-seeded Morris and Warburg 8-5 to post their fifth win in three days.

Corkery and Pade advanced to the final with an impressive 8-5 upset victory over second-seeded Ari Strasberg and Alex Vlaski of Washington.

Morris and Warburg, who reached their first doubles final as a team, opened the day with an 8-5 semifinal victory over Hector Almada and Stefan Suta of Fresno State.

Stanford returns to action at the Omni Hotels National Indoor Championship on November 7-10 (Thursday-Sunday) in Dallas, Texas. With Tuesday's win, Corkery and Pade automatically qualified for the main draw of the Omni National Indoors.
