CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Stanford University freshman K.C. Corkery qualified for the main draw of the 2002 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships with an easy victory on Wednesday morning at The Champions Club.
Corkery led Johan Berg of Southern California 6-1, 2-0 before the Trojan retired because of injury. Corkery dropped just five games in his two qualifying victories, and will open play in the 64-player main draw Thursday at 7:00 a.m. (Pacific Time) against Florian Marquardt of Virginia Commonwealth.
Corkery will be joined in the main draw by Stanford two-time All-Americans Scott Lipsky and eighth-seeded David Martin. Lipsky will face Richard Barker of Rice at 7:30 a.m. (PT), while Martin will take on Georgia's Bo Hodge at 6:00 a.m. (PT). The second round of singles will immediately follow Thursday morning's first round action.
In doubles, Lipsky and Martin earned the top seed in the 32-team draw and will face Bobby Reynolds and Lewis Smith of Vanderbilt at 2:00 p.m. (PT) on Thursday.
