FARMERS BRANCH, Tex. - Stanford seniors Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) and David Martin (Tulsa, OK) fell in doubles semifinal action at the Omni Hotels National Collegiate Indoor Championships on Friday evening at the Brookhaven Country Club.
Lipsky and Martin, who won a pair of matches Thursday to reach the semis, dropped a 9-7 decision to Richard Barker and William Barker of Rice.Martin dropped a three-set heartbreaker in second round singles competition Friday morning.Martin, who was seeded sixth in the 32-player singles draw, fell to Todd Widom of Miami of Florida 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-1.
In the consolation doubles semifinals, Stanford freshmen James Pade (Woodside, CA) nearly pulled off a major upset before falling to top-seeded Michael Calkins and Amer Delic of Illinois 9-8 (5).
Stanford concludes the 2002 fall season with an exhibition dual match at Hawaii on Friday, November 29 at 4:00 p.m. (PT).
