Santa Barbara, Calif. - The sixth-ranked Stanford University men's volleyball team was swept at UC Santa Barbara (30-24, 30-22, 30-15) Friday night in Robertson Gym. With the loss the Cardinal fall to 5-6 overall and 4-4 in the MPSF, while the Gauchos improve to 7-3 and 4-3 in the conference.
Stanford could never get their rhythm going, hitting a season-low .226 for the match. The Cardinal registered 17 errors and tallied only two team blocks. UC Santa Barbara finished with a .500 clip and eight blocks.
The Cardinal were led by junior opposite hitter Curt Toppel (Pacific Palisades, CA), who posted ten kills and four digs. Billy Strickland (Malibu, CA) added seven kills and Marcus Skacel (Laguna Niguel, CA) chipped in with six. Seth Ring (Bend, OR) recorded a team-high six digs.
Stanford will look to break its five-match losing streak tomorrow night at CS Northridge. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in the Matadome.
