Stanford Head Coach Tara VanDerveer
THOUGHTS ON THE GAME:
"Weber State played a really scrappy game like we thought they would. They got right on the game right away and we had to play very well to be successfultonight. I think that we had some great individual performances - Nicole withher triple double, Cori really brought an inside post presence and always playswell in the tournament, and it's great to have Lindsey back and she really didwell after being out for two weeks. I think our team just looked a little bitout of sync and it was good to get a game going but I know we are going to haveplay better on Monday."
ON MONDAY'S NIGHT GAME:
"We need to be in sync a little bit more offensively. We didn't finish on some shots that I think are good shots for us and I thought we turned it over too much. I think that we are a better percentage shooting team and defensively, we are going to have to work a lot harder than we did tonight. "
ON LINDSEY YAMASAKI:
"She has been doing really well in practice and I tried to keep her fresh as much as possible. I thought she did very well. She wants to help our team and it's just going to take some time and our team has to buy her some time."
Stanford forward Lindsey Yamasaki
ON COMING BACK:
"I felt really good physically. I think the adrenaline of the first tournament game and my first game back made me a step slow and I just felt a little awkward but my shot came around. I think that I was trying to do too much of what I used to do too soon."
Stanford guard Nicole Powell
ON WEBER STATE'S QUICK START:
"I wasn't surprised so much that they come out and played well, I think I was surprised at how we started the game. I don't know if we were a step slow or if we were just a little bit anxious and trying to force things too much but I think that people just really wanted to do well and that backfired a little bit. We faced a really good team and they played hard. When Cori came in, she just turned it around for us. She was running the floor so well and that was a really big key for us."
ON HER TRIPLE DOUBLE:
"I think it's pretty special but I'm just glad that we won and that people played well. I think that is more important than stats."
Stanford center Cori Enghusen
ON HER PERFORMANCE:
"I always play better in the tournament because they let us play a little bit more. Fouls are a problem that I deal with the whole year and in the post-season, they let us play more freely, which lets me get my game going."
Weber State Head Coach Carla Taylor
OPENING STATEMENT:
"I am extremely proud of the way our team played tonight. I think it is a difficult arena to come in for your first time, but as a staff I think we are very proud of the way our players played and competed. We were just a little oversized. The one thing I told them in the locker room was that they will always be the first. The first to win a conference championship, the first to host the conference tournament and the first to go to the NCAA's and represent Weber State. They can be proud of that and I am just really please with their effort and intensity. They were in an extremely difficult situation to come into Maples Pavilion and play against a team that is very, very good."
WHAT YOU WILL TAKE AND BUILD ON FROM THE NCAA TOURNAMENT:
"There is no replacement for experience, and we say that to players but it is the same for coaches. There is no replacement for the experience I gained having had the opportunity to come here. I think the one thing as a staff we take is that we have to get some bigger players. Great players make great coaches, there is no question. Hopefully from this it will help our recruiting, which is something we will use to bring players in and continue to build the program. We still have a lot of young players, so we have a taste of it and those returning will have to work hard to get back here. We will use this as a motivational tool."
Weber State guard Stephanie Stanger
ON STANFORD'S NICOLE POWELL:
"She is the best player I have played against. She can do everything and there is not something that you can cheat or take away."
ON HER LAST GAME FOR WEBER STATE:
"It has been the best four years and I would not trade anything for it. It is something I will never forget. The people that I have met, played with and played for are some of the best people ever. It is something I wish everyone could experience because it makes you a better person."
Weber State center Crystal Howe
ON STANFORD'S SIZE:
"It was a great opportunity to play against a girl that was 6-8, and I never would have gotten that. I should have used my mobility more, but it was a great opportunity."
WHAT THE TEAM TOOK FROM THE NCAA TOURNAMENT EXPERIENCE:
"We are going to bring it back next year. We are loosing some great seniors and leadership, but we feel we will come back with some great leadership from our juniors. We will continue to be successful at Weber State."
