Mark Mulholland placed third (with a record of 9 -- 3) and freshman Steve Gerberman placed fourth (also with a record of 9 -- 3. The tie breaker was a thing called an "indicator." This is the ratio of touches scored against touches received. For example, if I end up scoring a total of 56 points in all 12 of my bouts and was only scored upon 31 times, 56 -- 31 = an indicator of +25. Steve had an indicator of +22). There was a tie for first between two people with a record 10 -- 2. Freshman Greg Donaker placed 9th (with a record of 3 -- 9) and Freshman Cheech Pencavel won his bout against CalTech (we subbed him in for one bout).

Freshman Ken Jung (10 -- 2) placed second only loosing two bouts all day including one to Champion Seth Kelsey and senior Graham Allen (9 -- 3) placed third. Sophomore Brian Grefenstette (6 -- 6) placed eighth in his first appearance at the Western Regional Champioships.

Senior Dave Lavalle ( 13 -- 0) dominated the field easily taking the championship. Senior Ben Brutlag (8 -- 5) struggled to a sixth place finish while freshman Calvin Chin (9 -- 4) placed one spot higher at fifth.

Sophomore Meghan Everett (12 -- 1) successfully defended her Regional Championship while senior Diane Boudalis (11 -- 2) makes a strong bid for qualifying for the NCAA Championships by placing third.
