RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Stanford Lightweight Women's Crew opened its inaugural season with wins over Lightweight crews from Cal and Humboldt State.
In the first race of the day the Stanford Varsity Lightweight boat finished the 2000 Meter race course in a time of 7:19, 23 seconds ahead of Humboldt and 28 seconds ahead of the Cal Lightweights.
Stanford's Lightweight Novice crew also opened its season with a win, finishing in a time of 7:53, 35 seconds ahead of the Cal Lightweight Crew and 46 seconds ahead of Humboldt.
The varsity's final race of the day came against the Sacramento State Varsity (openweight), and the Cal Lightweight Crew. Stanford finished with a time of 7:23, seven seconds behind Sacramento State and 37 seconds ahead of the Cal Lightweight Crew.
Coach Al Acosta remarked, "Considering that this is our first year of existence, it was nice not only to get the season started on the right foot, but the program as well. The team is looking forward to a solid week of training in preparation for the San Diego Crew Classic where the Varsity will be challenged by, Princeton (defending national champions), Wisconsin, and Villanova, among others."
