Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford men's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (30-24, 30-19, 30-19) victory over California in an exhibition match Tuesday night at Maples Pavilion. William Curtis (Whittier, CA) led the Cardinal attack with a team-high 13 kills.
Both teams hit well in game one, with Stanford holding the advantage .481 to Cal's .314. Paul Bocage (Princeton, NJ), Patrick Bomhack (Waukesha, WI) and Curtis each tallied four kills for the Cardinal. Kris Kuchenbecker led the Golden Bears with six kills in the first game.
Behind six kills from Curtis, the Cardinal easily took the second game 30-19. Chris Sandman (San Jose, CA) dominated the net recording three blocks as Stanford used a 5-0 blocking advantage over California in game two.
Stanford then cruised to a 30-19 win in the third game to complete the sweep. Bomhack and Bocage connected at the net to record three consecutive blocks in game three and also accounted for eight of the team's 15 kills.
For the match, Curtis finished with a team-high 13 kills. Bocage recorded 10 kills in 14 swings (.714) and collected six blocks. Bomhack led Stanford with a match-high 34 assists, eight digs and seven blocks. Sandman added nine kills to the Cardinal offense and hit a .692 clip.
Stanford outblocked the Golden Bears 11-3 and held a team hitting percentage over California .470 to .194. Kris Kuchenbecker and Tyler Reynard led the Bears with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
The Cardinal will host No. 13 UC Irvine in their final home regular season match on Friday, April 5. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
