New Haven, CT - Stanford sailors David Phillips '04 and crew Lauren Gross '05 dominated the field at this year's Harry Anderson regatta hosted by Yale University. The deep field of 22 schools boasted many of last year's All-American skippers and crews. "All the major players were there sailing A Division, and it was a light air event, which is a condition we normally feel uncomfortable in," commented Coach Jay Kehoe. Because of numerous postponements due to the light winds, only six races were held in each division. Battling the light air and the competitive fleet, Phillips/Gross earned an amazing string of finishes; 3, 1, 3, 9, 3, 5. Their 24 points put them comfortably ahead of second place USMMA-King's Point's Peeter Must and Tuft's Pete Levesque (College Sailor of the Year Runner-up).
Making his debut in a top-level Varsity event, Jeff Allen '05 paired with crew Jessie Duncan '05 to field the B-Division boat for Stanford. Allen & Duncan's finishes ranged from the teens to a 3rd place, "Jeff realized they could be a factor when he earned that 3rd place, this was an important learning weekend for him," commented Coach Kehoe. Allen and Duncan finished 14th in B-Division.
Pre-season practice starts September 19th for the Stanford Sailors. Their first rounds of competition towards the fall championship begin September 28-29.
