MALIBU, Calif. - No. 6 Stanford saw its three game winning streak come to an end in Malibu Thursday night as the No. 4 Waves beat the Cardinal 30-24, 30-23, 30-16 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) played at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Sophomore outside hitters Mike Gledhill and Sean Rooney both totaled 10 kills as Pepperdine improved to 8-1 overall and remained the only unbeaten team in the MPSF with a 6-0 league mark.
The loss dropped Stanford to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in MPSF play. The Cardinal played without the services of senior outside hitter Curt Toppel.
Senior outside hitter William Curtis paced Stanford with a team-high12 kills, while senior William Strickland added nine kills and seven digs.
Pepperdine recorded a team hitting percentage of .444 and held Stanford to a .176 team attack mark. The Waves outblocked the Cardinal by a 10-2 margin, as senior outside hitter Brad Keenan led the way with seven blocks.
Stanford concludes this six-match road swing on Saturday at USC at 7:00 p.m.
