KC Corkery/James Pade Fall In Semis Of Pacific Coast Doubles

March 2, 2003

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Stanford freshmen James Pade (Woodside, CA) fell in the semifinals of the 114th Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championship on Sunday morning at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.

Corkery and Pade, who were the collegiate seventh seeds in the 128-team event, dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to collegiate second seeds Oliver Maiberger and Ryan Redondo of San Diego State. Maiberger and Redondo are ranked sixth in the nation, while Corkery and Pade are ranked 18th.

Sunday's loss ended an impressive run by the Cardinal freshmen, who had won four matches in two days to reach the semis. On Saturday, Corkery and Pade upset the top-seeded open entry (Adriano Biasella/Peter Smith) and the fourth-seeded collegiate entry (33rd-ranked Diego Acuna/Calle Hansen of Pepperdine).

Seventh-ranked Stanford (7-2) returns to team action on Wednesday when it hosts 29th-ranked Tulane at 1:30 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center. The Tulane match was added to the schedule in January after the National Collegiate Tennis Classic was cancelled.
