STANFORD, Calif. - The sixth-ranked Stanford men's tennis team tuned up for Pacific-10 Conference play with a 7-0 win over visiting BYU (7-7) on Wednesday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center.
The Cardinal opens Pac-10 play against ninth-ranked Washington on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Stanford then visits 56th-ranked Oregon on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
Stanford won all six singles matches in straight sets. At No. 2, senior David Martin (Tulsa, OK) picked up his team-leading 21st victory with an easy 6-1, 6-1 win over Carlos Lozano.
The Cardinal also swept all three doubles matches, including an impressive win at No. 1 by seniors Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) and Martin. Lipsky and Martin, who are ranked fourth in the nation, defeated 18th-ranked Lozano and Erik Nyman 8-5.
