The Cardinal enters the four-game stretch in first place in the Pac-10 standings with a 7-2 conference record (one game ahead of 6-3 California) after completing a three-game Pac-10 sweep with an 8-5 win in 11 innings at Washington State on Monday ... Carlos Quentin, Sam Fuld and Ryan Garko have been swinging the team's hottest bats ... Quentin has a current career-high 19-game hit streak in which he is hitting .474 (36-76) and a team-high .407 batting average as he is attempting to become the first Stanford player to hit .400 or better since David McCarty finished the 1991 campaign with a .420 mark ... Fuld also has a career-best hit streak of 15 games in which he is hitting .459 (34-74) and has regained a share of his spot on top of Stanford's career batting average list (.362) ... Fuld has also taken over the team's lead in hits (49) and runs scored (34) ... Garko homered three times and drove in seven runs during Stanford's last series at Washington State and is the team's leader in both homers (9) and RBI (43) ... Garko is hitting .559 (19-34) with five homers and 18 RBI during his current season-high eight game hit streak ... Tobin Swope leads the club with 16 multiple-hit games ... STANFORD-SANTA CLARA PREVIEW AND SERIES HISTORY
Stanford and Santa Clara both head into tonight's game coming off weekend three-game road conference sweeps versus Washington State and USF, respectively. The Broncos have actually won a season-high-tying four in a row and six of their last seven. Stanford leads the all-time series versus Santa Clara (since 1977), 80-25-1, and opened the 2003 season on January 25 (7-2 at Santa Clara) and 26 (5-0 at Stanford) with back-to-back wins over the Broncos to extend its win streak against Santa Clara to four. Stanford has won 24 of its last 25 games against Santa Clara with the only Bronco victory during the stretch a 13-9 win at Buck Shaw Stadium to snap a 20-game losing streak to the Cardinal on February 23, 2002. Stanford won three other meetings with the Broncos last season (February 22 at Stanford, 5-4; February 24 at Stanford, 8-7; May 7 at Santa Clara, 13-2).

Stanford 6, at Washington State 1 (April 4, 2003)
John Hudgins tossed his second complete game of the season and the fifth of his career to lead Stanford to a 6-1 victory over Washington State in the opener of a three-game Pac-10 series. Jonny Ash (2-3, 2 RBI) was the only Stanford player with more than one hit, while Jed Lowrie added a pair of RBI.
Hudgins, who won for the first time since also going the distance at California on March 7, allowed just seven hits and one run while striking out six in the fastest Stanford game of the season, which clocked in at two hours and one minute.
The only run off Hudgins came on a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the sixth by Jeremy Farrar. Hudgins gave up more than one hit only once in the sixth frame and was benefited by a double play prior to Farrar's homer. The Cardinal turned its second double play to get out of the eighth inning after the Cougars had put runners on first and second with one out.
Washington State's Tony Banaszak (1-7) suffered the loss despite holding the Cardinal to seven hits and pitching his third complete game of the season. Wes Falkenborg (2-4, 2B) was the only Washington State player with more than one hit.
Stanford 12, at Washington State 5 (April 5, 2003)
Ryan Garko (3-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI) blasted a pair of two-run homers and tied a career-high with four RBI, while Carlos Quentin (4-5, 2B, 3 RBI) had four of Stanford's 17 hits to lead the Cardinal to a 12-5 victory over Washington State. Matt Manship picked up his first career collegiate victory, allowing only one run and one hit with four strikeouts in a career-high 4.2 innings of relief.
Brian Hall (2-5, 3B, RBI), Danny Putnam (2-5, RBI), Tobin Swope (2-5, RBI) and Sam Fuld (2-5) each added two hits for Stanford.
Wes Falkenborg (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Justin Hart (2-4, HR, RBI) and Jay Miller (2-5) each had two of Washington State's 10 hits. Washington State's Bryce Chamberlin (3-3) was charged with the loss, allowing eight runs and 12 hits over the first 5.1 innings.
Stanford 8, at Washington State 5 -- 11 inn. (April 7, 2003)
Sam Fuld's two-out RBI single in the top of the 11th inning scored Tobin Swope with the winning run and sparked a three-run rally to lift Stanford to a thrilling 8-5 victory over Washington State and complete a three-game sweep. Stanford's sweep was the first time a Pac-10 team has swept a conference series this season. The victory keeps the Cardinal in first place in the Pac-10 standings by one game over California (6-3 Pac-10). Stanford has also won seven straight series and 18 of its last 23 games overall, as well as 15 in a row versus Washington State since the Cougars rejoined the Pac-10 in 1999.
Washington State brought the winning run to the plate by loading the bases in the bottom of the 11th before winning pitcher David O'Hagan (4-1) struck out pinch-hitter Garrett Alwert to end the game.
Hall (4-5, 2 2B, 2 SB, RBI) had a career-high-tying four of Stanford's 15 hits, while Garko (2-5, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) homered for the third time in the series and extended his hit streak to eight games. Carlos Quentin extended his career-high hit streak to 19 games with a first inning double, while Fuld's 11th inning RBI single extended his career-high hit streak to 15 games and gave him his 100th career RBI. Swope (2-4, SB) and Jed Lowrie (2-5) each added a pair of hits for the Cardinal.
2003 STANFORD-SANTA CLARA GAME REVIEWSStanford 7, at Santa Clara 2 (January 25, 2003)
Danny Putnam (3-5, HR, 2 RBI) and Ryan Garko (3-5, 2 RBI) each had three of Stanford's 15 hits in a 7-2 season-opening victory for the Cardinal. Carlos Quentin (2-2, 2B, SB), Brian Hall (2-5, HR, SB) and Tobin Swope (2-2, SB) added two hits each. John Hudgins tossed the first 6.0 innings to earn the win, while Ryan McCally picked up his first save of the campaign with 3.0 scoreless one-hit innings of relief.
at Stanford 5, Santa Clara 0 (January 26, 2003)
Tim Cunningham and Matt Manship came within one out of recording the ninth no-hitter in school history before Santa Clara's Eric Newton doubled with two outs in the top of the ninth in his first collegiate at bat. Danny Putnam (2-2, 2B, HR, RBI) homered in his second straight game for the Cardinal and John Mayberry (2-4, 2B) added a pair of hits.
