No. 1 Stanford Defeats No. 16 Arizona State, 6-1

TEMPE, Ariz. - The top-ranked Stanford women's tennis team improved to 5-0 in the Pacific-10 Conference with a 6-1 road win over 16th-ranked Arizona State on Saturday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center. The Cardinal has dropped just two points in its five conference victories.

The Cardinal, which is now 17-1 overall, concludes this five-match road swing on Wednesday at No. 4 California at 4:00 p.m. in Berkeley. Arizona State dropped to 9-9 overall and 2-5 in the Pac-10.

Stanford opened the dual by sweeping all three doubles matches to pick up the first point.

The Cardinal continued to roll in singles by winning five of the six singles matches in straight sets. At No. 2, Stanford junior Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ), who is ranked 14th in the nation, defeated 54th-ranked Dora Krstulovic 6-2, 7-5.
