San Diego, Ca - Jill Camarena won the shot put title, Andrew Hill beat the competition in the 5,000 meters and Samantha Shepard set a freshman school record in the pole vault to highlight Stanford's participation on Saturday at the California-Nevada State Collegiate Track & Field Championships at San Diego State.
Camarena, a three-time All-American, captured the shot put with a throw of 55-3 1/2 (16.85m). Hill, meanwhile, won the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:37.50.
Camarena, later in the day, finished third in the discus with a season-best mark of 165-8 (50.51m). Camarena's mark qualified her for the NCAA West Regionals later this year at Stanford. Molly Meyer placed fourth (161-0, 49.08m) while Kitty Currier placed sixth (153-1, 46.66m).
Freshman Samantha Shephard broke the school record in the pole vault with a mark of 13-0 3/4 (3.98m). Shephard's vault was also second-best in school history. Kathleen Donoghue finished fourth (12-2 3/4, 3.73m) while Leila Ben-Youssef finished seventh (11-9 (3.58m). In the women's hammer, Donielle Colich placed seventh (173-9, 52.96m) while Sarah Hopping was 13th (161-10, 49.33m).
Stanford was slated to compete in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on Saturday at Cal's Edwards Stadium, but inclement weather cancelled the event. The Invitational will not be rescheduled.
