TUCSON, Ariz. - The top-ranked Stanford women's tennis team extended its winning streak to 14 with a 6-1 victory over host Arizona on Friday afternoon at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
The Cardinal, which will visit No. 16 Arizona State on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., improved to 16-1 overall and 4-0 in the Pacific-10 Conference. The Wildcats slipped to 7-11 and 1-5.
Stanford won five of the six singles matches, including four in straight sets. Juniors Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) and Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ), sophomore Story Tweedie-Yates (Redmond, WA) and freshman Alice Barnes (Cambridge, U.K.) were all straight set winners.
The Cardinal also won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2. At No. 1, top-ranked Barnikow and sophomore Erin Burdette (Jackson, GA) beat Maja Mlakar and Emilie Scribot 8-6.
