OJAI, Calif. - Stanford freshmen James Pade (Woodside, CA) advanced to the final of the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Tennis Doubles Championship on Saturday afternoon at Libbey Park.
Corkery and Pade improved to 28-10 on the season with an 8-4 semifinal win over Whi Kim and Paul Warkentin of Arizona. Corkery and Pade, who have won nine matches in a row dating back to April 8, will meet Parker Collins and Daniel Langre of USC in the final on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Libbey Park. This will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams. Corkery and Pade are bidding to become Stanford's first Pac-10 Doubles Champions since K.J. Hippensteel and Alex Kim captured the crown in 2001.
In the invitational doubles flight, Stanford redshirt junior Carter Morris (Washington, D.C.) and sophomore Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA) qualified for the final with a convincing 8-3 triumph over Chris Lam and Chris Surapol of UCLA. Morris and Warburg, who have won seven matches in a row dating back to April 4, will play Or Dekel and Robert Kowalczyk of California in the final on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Libbey Park. This will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
In the Pac-10 Singles Championship, Cardinal senior David Martin (Tulsa, OK), who isranked 12th in the nation, dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to 18th-ranked Alex Vlaski of Washington.
The Cardinal did not have any participants in Saturday's consolation draws.
