STANFORD, Calif. - The seventh-ranked Stanford men's tennis team won its 10th straight dual match, and improved to 9-0 at home this season, with an impressive 7-0 victory over defending NCAA Champion USC on Friday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center.
The Cardinal improved to 15-2 on the season, while the 22nd-ranked Trojans dropped to 11-7. The match does not count in the Pac-10 standings.
Stanford won all six matches in straight sets, including wins over nationally-ranked opposition at both No. 1 and No. 2. David Martin (Tulsa, OK), who is ranked 12th in the nation, defeated 34th-ranked Prakash Amritraj 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, while 64th-ranked Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) beat 80th-ranked Johan Berg 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2.
The Cardinal also won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3. In the top spot, fourth-ranked Lipsky and Martin beat 17th-ranked Amritraj and Daniel Langre 8-6.
Stanford continues this six-match homestand against No. 6 UCLA on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center.
