Tucson, Ariz. - The top-ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving team defeated No. 14 Arizona, 160-66, this afternoon in Tucson, Arizona. The Cardinal improve to 5-0, 1-0 Pac-10. Stanford won 11 of 14 swimming events and one of two diving events on the day.

The Cardinal opened the meet with a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 medley relay. The relay team of Randall Bal, Michael Bruce, Peter Marshall and Bobby O'Bryan turned in a winning time of 1:29.35 - the fastest by a Stanford relay team in this event this year.

Stanford followed with a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 free as Matt Sorlien took top honors, clocking in at 9:08.56. Michael McLean was second (9:25.78) while teammate Eric DiIulio was third (9:31.94). John Waters placed first in the 200 free with his time of 1:38.51 while Dan Trupin was third (1:39.25). Another 1-2-3 finish followed in the 100 back for Stanford as Markus Rogan took first (49.28), Randall Bal was second (50.05) and Tobias Oriwol was third (50.84).

Michael Bruce turned in a time of 55.83 in the 100 breast to take first place for the Cardinal. Stanford's Rick Eddy was second (57.39). Sophomore Jayme Cramer took first in the 200 fly, clocking in at 1:46.87. Bobby O'Bryan was the Cardinals top finisher in the 50 free, taking second with a time of 20.84. Scott Ransenberg was third (21.09). John Waters took third in the 100 free (46.29) to lead Stanford.

The Cardinal got a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 back as Dan Westcott led the way with his time of 1:47.86. Matt Sorlien placed second (1:48.01) and Tobias Oriwol was third (1:51.01). Michael Bruce and Pat Fowler finished 1-2 respectively in the 200 breast with times of 2:00.04 and 2:05.87. Matt Sorlien won his second event on the day with a victory in the 500 free (4:28.18). John Waters was second (4:33.47) and Michael McLean placed third (4:35.58). Peter Marshall was Stanford's top finisher in the 100 fly as he took second in a time of 49.46.

Markus Rogan won his second event as he took top honors in the 400 IM, clocking in at 3:53.88 - his fastest time this season. Dan Trupin was second (3:56.89). In the final event of the day, the 200 free relay, Stanford once again turned in the fastest time as the team of Marshall, Rogan, Westcott and Waters claimed victory (1:21.16).

In diving action, Gavin Olmstead (181.60) and Adam Peterson (180.55) finished second and third respectively in the one-meter event. Olmstead won the three-meter event with a score of 210.15. Peterson placed fourth (181.15).

Stanford is back in action tomorrow, facing No. 13 Arizona State in Tempe.
