Stanford, Ca - All-American Tony Azevedo scored six goals and sophomore Thomas Hopkins added two to lead the fourth-ranked Stanford men's water polo team to a 10-7 victory over ninth-ranked UC Santa Barbara in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) game on Saturday afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center.
Azevedo, a member of the 2000 United States Olympic team, tallied two goals each in the first, second and third periods.
The Cardinal held a sizable 10-3 lead after three periods, but the Gauchos mounted a mild comeback with four straight goals in the final period.
Chad Taylor collected seven saves in goal for the Cardinal, who upped their season record to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in the MPSF. UCSB fell to 11-8 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Stanford hosts UC Davis on Sunday (noon).
