Stanford, Calif. - Behind two first half goals, the No. 1 UCLA Bruins defeated the Stanford Cardinal, 2-0 Friday night at Maloney Field. With the loss, the Cardinal fall to 2-11-2 overall and 0-6-0 in Pac-10 play, while the Bruins improved to 13-1-0 overall and 6-0-0 in conference action.
Freshman forward Chad Barrett got the Bruins on scoreboard in the 28th minute, slipping a shot past Cardinal goalkeeper Robby Fulton. Leonard Griffin and Matt Taylor collected assists on the score.
The Bruins added an insurance goal in the 36th minute when Taylor crossed the ball to Mike Enfield who found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Cliff McKinley also collected an assist on the play.
The Cardinal managed four shots on goal compared to 12 by the Bruins. Chad Marshall, Abe Geiger, Mike Wilson and Darren Fernandez accounted for Stanford's four shots.
Fulton registered four saves in the loss, bringing his season record to 1-7, while UCLA goalkeeper Zach Wells recorded one save, improving his season record to 13-1.
The Cardinal look to snap a season-high six-game losing streak when they host Fresno State on Sunday at 1:00 pm (PT) at Maloney Field.
