Stanford's Kirk Chambers finished his Cardinal career today by starting in his 45th consecutive game ... Chambers started every game at left tackle for the past four years (2000-03). Stanford punter Eric Johnson broke two school records today ... Johnson set a new record for most punting yards in a season with 3687 and most punt attempts in a season with 86 ... Both records were held previously by Paul Stonehouse in 1992 (82 punts, 3427 yards). Stanford quarterback Chris Lewis finished his career eighth on the school's career yards passing list 4346 yards ... Lewis also finished seventh in career touchdown passes with 33 and eighth in career total offense with 4328 yards. Notre Dame running back Julius Jones rushed for 218 yards, marking the third time this season he has rushed for 200-plus yards in a game - the most by a Notre Dame running back in the history of the program. With its win today, Notre Dame breaks a three-game losing streak at Stanford and earns its first win at Stanford Stadium since October 2, 1993, which also represents the last time that a road team had won in the series prior to tonight. With today's win, Notre Dame picks up its first road victory at a Pac-10 Conference school since a 38-21 victory over USC at the Los Angeles Coliseum on November 25, 2000. The Fighting Irish improve to 23-2 in games following a regularly scheduled bye week dating back to 1984 and stretch their current win streak in such games to 14 in a row. Notre Dame's 57 points today is the most by a Cardinal opponent this year (previous high was 44 by USC on October 11) ... The 57 points is the most scored against Stanford since Arizona State put up 65 last year in Tempe, Arizona on September 26, 2002. Today's 50-point loss marks the biggest point-margin home defeat in school history (previous high was a 49-0 loss to UCLA in 1987).
Note: Stanford does not include the point differential in its rugby years (1912-17) or its unofficial schedule in 1918. Notre Dame's 57 points today is the most by the team this season and the Fighting Irish scored 52 points versus Boston College in 1957. Stanford ends the 2003 season with a 4-7 record, doubling its win total from last year when team was 2-9 overall.
