Stanford, Calif. - Junior outside hitter Ogonna Nnamani (Normal, IL) tallied a match-high 26 kills and added 11 digs as the eighth-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team defeated ninth-ranked California, 3-1, tonight in Maples Pavilion before a crowd of 3,345. Game scores were 30-25, 23-30, 30-26, 30-19.
The Cardinal improve to 18-5 overall, 11-3 in the Pac-10 while the Golden Bears fall to 19-4 overall, 10-4 in league play.
Stanford won game one on the strenth of Nnamani's eight kills and Kristin Richards (Orem, UT) four blocks (eight total team blocks) as the Cardinal won 30-25. Stanford hit only. 179 for the game however held California to a negative attack percentage at -.021.
Game two was controlled by the Golden Bears as they hit .378 for the game (20-3-45) while holding Stanford to a .125 attack percentage, winning, 30-23. Nnamani added six kills to lead the Cardinal while Alicia Powers led Cal with six kills as well.
Stanford won game three, hitting .260 and adding four team blocks to take the 30-26 victory. Senior Sara Dukes (Danville, CA) collected an additional three blocks in this game while Nnamani added five more kills.
The Cardinal controlled game four, winning the game and the match with a 30-19 score. Stanford hit .353 for the game with seven kills from Nnamani.
Outside hitter Kristin Richards added 13 kills and 12 digs on the night while middle blocker Sara Dukes added a team-high six blocks. Senior Jennifer Harvey (Denver, CO) added eight kills and five blocks to the cause. Rightside hitter Jennifer Hucke led the match with three service aces and added four blocks and five kills as well.
The Golden Bears were led by Amanda Fox's career-high 14 kills and libero Jillian Davis' career-high and match-high 28 digs.
