Westlake Villiage, Calif. - The Stanford men's golf team fired a final round of 289 at the 2003 Cleveland Golf Classic in Westlake Village, Calif., today to finished tied for fourth overall with a three-round score of 865. UCLA won the event with a seven-under par 845, followed by California (852) who finished seven strokes back. Oklahoma took third (862), followed by Stanford and Arizona State (865).
Stanford's three-round total of 865 was a season-best for the Cardinal.
Senior Ron Won led the Cardinal, tying for 15th overall with a one-over par 214 (76-67-71) for the tournament. Jim Seki finished a stroke back at 215 (68-71-76) to tie for 17th. George Downing posted a score of 218 (73-74-71) while teammate Kevin Blue tied for 48th with a 221 (77-73-71). Blake Mastalir tied for 84th with a 230 (74-77-79). Pat Phillips, competing as an individual, tied for 54th overall with a 222 (69-77-76).
UCLA's Steve Conway was the top individual medalist, carding a six-under par 207 over three rounds. Peter Tomasulo, from California, was second with a five-under par 208. Five players tied for third, firing a two-under par 211 four the tourney.
Stanford is back in action March 24-25 at the Oregon Duck Invitational in Eugene, Oregon.
