STANFORD, Calif. - Fifth-ranked Lewis University (15-3 overall) posted a 30-22, 30-28, 30-26 win over host Stanford University (10-10) in the Cardinal Invitational on Friday night at Burnham Pavilion.

On Saturday, in the second and final day of the Cardinal Invitational at Burnham Pavilion, Lewis plays eighth-ranked Pacific at 5:00 p.m. and Stanford takes on Findlay at 7:30 p.m.

Senior William Curtis (Whittier, CA) led the Cardinal with 15 kills and three digs, while senior Paul Bocage (Princeton, NJ) chipped in nine kills and four blocks.

Junior Fabiano Bareto hit .531 with 23 kills (23 k-6 e-32 ta) to lead the Flyers, while sophomore Gustavo Meyer had 13 kills and six digs. Lewis out-hit Stanford .542 (64-12-96)-.340 (46-12-100), and had 33 digs to the Cardinal's 15.

Lewis broke open the first game with a 6-1 run that stretched a 12-9 advantage to 18-10. The Cardinal could get no closer than five points the rest of the way.

Game two was tied at 25-25 before Lewis scored three of the next four points to take a 28-26 lead. The Cardinal came back to tie it at 28-28, but the visitors closed out the game on a kill by James Elsea and a Stanford hitting error.

Game three was also tied at 25-25 before Lewis scored five of the final six points to close out the match. The Flyers wrapped up the contest on back-to-back kills by Bareto.
