Redwood Shores, Calif. - In the varsity eight event the #2 Golden Bears got off to a two seatadvantage and then turned it in to an eight seat gap by the 1000meter mark. The Cardinal fought back closing the margin in thesecond half of the race but came up short finishing 2.5 secondsbehind the Bears.
The second varsity, novice four, and the novice eight lost bydecisive margins in their races.
Head Coach Aimee Baker says of the racing, "California is anexcellent team that jumped out to an early lead. Our boats foughthard but gave up too much at the start to overcome. We have twoweeks to make improvements before we see Cal and the other west coastteams at the Pac-10 Championship's."
The Stanford lightweights competed against the California thirdvarsity and second novice boats. The Stanford varsity lightweightboat finished 13 seconds behind the California third varsity and theStanford novice lightweight boat finished nine seconds behind theCalifornia second novice.
