Stanford Lightweight Women Finish Fifth At the National Championships

May 30th 2003

Cooper River Cherry Hill, NJ - In what was one of their best performances of the year, the Cardinal got off the line with Georgetown, Wisconsin, and Purdue. After falling behind during the middle thousand meters, Stanford was able to bring the rating up at the end and move ahead of Purdue. In slight head wind conditions, Stanford lightweight women's varsity eight raced to a fifth place finish in a time of 7:11. Coach Acosta commented, " We moved up a spot from last year and made a huge improvement in boat speed- we we're much closer to the medal winners. Considering that the boat was comprised of five freshman and four sophomores, they preformed quite well."
