STANFORD
Stanford has moved to within one victory of extending its school record string of College World Series trips to five. Stanford has won eight consecutive games as well as eight straight home games, and 17 of its last 18 games overall. Stanford is 25-5 in Regional and Super Regional games since the new Super Regional format began in 1999. Stanford head coach Mark Marquess picked up his 99th career postseason victory (99-43). Stanford has won three straight postseason games versus Long Beach State, including a pair of victories in last year's Regional at Stanford. The Cardinal is now 9-2 in five Super Regional appearances and 107-51 all-time in NCAA postseason play. Sam Fuld's 17-game hitting streak was snapped, as he went 0-for-3. Brian Hall's 11-game hitting streak also came to an end after an 0-for-4 night. Danny Putnam hit his third home run of the 2003 postseason off of Neil Jamison, tying Ryan Garko for the team lead, and now leads the Cardinal with 10 RBI in this postseason. John Hudgins pitched his second straight postseason complete game and improved his career postseason record to 4-0. Ryan Garko went 1-for-3, putting his batting average at .417 on the season. He added an RBI to increase his season total to 88, putting him four behind Rick Lundblade's 1985 single-season record of 92. The attendance was 3,561 -- the second-highest at Sunken Diamond all season, with the highest being 4,017 against Cal Poly on Fireworks Night on May 23.
LONG BEACH STATE
Todd Jennings extended his hitting streak to 27 games, tying a Long Beach State school record. Two of Abe Alvarez's five career losses are against Stanford. The Dirtbags are now 1-4 all-time against Stanford and are 6-6 in games played in Palo Alto.
