Stanford University announced today the signing of 12student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent to play football andattend Stanford University in the Fall of 2004. Head coach BuddyTeevens, now in his third season at Stanford, said he is pleased withthe class, which includes some of the most coveted prep prospects inthe nation.

"Our class of 12 recruits is small in numbers, but verysolid," said Teevens. "We were able to fill positional needs withtalented student-athletes who we feel will contribute relativelyearly in their career. We needed depth on the offensive line and attight end, and we feel we were quite productive in that area," hesaid.

"Another area of need was cover cornerback," said Teevens,"and we filled that with two very talented players. Depth at fullbackand running back and a speed linebacker were also important areas forus. Overall, this is a very solid class that we feel will make apositive contribution to the Stanford football program," said Teevens.

Among the 12-member class, seven are offensive players (fourlineman, one running back, fullback and wide receiver), three aredefensive players (two backs, one linebacker) and two others who canplay either tight end or defensive end.

As usual, Stanford's recruiting was national. Ten states arerepresented among the 12 players and only one is from California. TheCardinal recruited two players from Texas and Arizona and one eachfrom Minnesota, Washington, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Louisiana,Florida and California.

All four of the Cardinal's offensive lineman were named prepAll-Americans, and two were ranked among the top seven OL prospectsin the country. The Cardinal recruited two defensive backs in Carlos McFall(San Antonio, TX/Roosevelt HS) and Wopamo Osasai (Pinole, CA/PinoleHS). McFall was an option quarterback in high school who earned thereputation as one of the top athletes in the San Antonio area. Osasaiis Stanford's only recruit from California.
