Stanford Falls In Semifinal Action At ITA Team Indoor Championship

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Stanford University men's tennis team fell to top-ranked Illinois, 4-2 in the semifinals of the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The loss is the first of the season for the Cardinal who fall to 4-1 on the year. The Illini advance to face the UCLA Bruins in the finals on Sunday.

Illinois began the match by capturing the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches. Illinois' Brian Wilson and Phil Stolt defeated Stanford's James Pade, 8-5, while Ryler DeHeart and Pramod Dabir defeated Stanford's Phil Sheng and Joe Kao, 8-5.

In singles action, only two Stanford players were victorious as junior Sam Warburg collected a win at No. 2 singles for the third straight day with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Stolt. Freshman James Wan continued to play well as he also won for the third consecutive day earning a 6-4, 6-1 win over Dabir at the No. 6 singles spot.

Stanford returns to The Farm to host Rice on February 14th at the Taube Tennis Center at 12:00 pm (PT).
