Grant Robison, Donald Sage, Sara Bei, Alicia Craig Earn NCAA Berths at Husky Indoor Invitational

Seattle, Wa - Sara Bei and Alicia Craig became Stanford's first NCAA indoor women's qualifiers of the year with times of 9:13.32 and 9:14.72, respectively, in the 3,000 meters at Saturday's Husky Indoor Invitational. The national qualifying time was 9:16.00. Two other Cardinal runners, Amanda Trotter and Teresa McWalters qualified provisionally with times of 9:32.83 and 9:33.08, respectively. Grant Robison, the 2003 NCAA outdoor 1,500 meter champion, and Donald Sage, the 2002 NCAA outdoor 1,500 meter champion, also qualified for the NCAA's in the 3,000 meters with times of 7:51.80 and 7:54.75, respectively. Peter Meindl was a provisional qualifier at 8:01.07.

Stanford's women's distance medley relay team qualified provisionally in a time of 11:17.94.

Freshman Ashley Freeman also qualified for the NCAA's provisionally with a time of 2:08.67 in the 800 meters. Another provisional qualifier was freshman Katy Trotter in the mile at 4:44.36. Katie Hotchkiss produced a time of 4:51.15 in the mile, a time good enough to qualify for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships.

Other MPSF qualifiers from Stanford included Lindsey Johnson in the 600 meter hurdles (8.89); Celia Smalls in the 3,000 meters (10:17.14); Lindsey Gannaway in the high jump (5-7, 1.70m); Undine Becker in the long jump (19-6 1/4, 5.95m) and triple jump (38-0, 11.58m); Samantha Sheppard in the pole vault (11-9 3/4, 3.60m); Janice Davis in the 60 meters (7.62); Gerren Crochet in the 60 meters (6.95) and 400 meters (48.68); Curtis Goehring in the 400 meters (48.18); Michael Garcia in the 800 meters (1:55.28); David Vidal in the mile (4:08.05); Lauren Jespersen in the mile (4:08.28); Jacob Gomez in the mile (4:09.51); Philip West in the mile (4:09.668); Omer Inan in the shot put (54-5 1/2, 16.60m); Will Svitek in the shot put (52-5 1/2, 15.99m) and Nick Welihozkiy in the weight throw (63-1 1/2, 19.24m).

Jakki Bailey was a double winner for Stanford during Saturday's competition. Bailey won the 60 meters in a season-best time of 7.48 and later won the 200 meters in a time of 24.64, another season-best. Bailey's time in both events qualified her for the MPSF Championships later this year.

Stanford's third winner of the day was Chris Emme who crossed the finish line in the 5,000 meters at 14:03.13, easily surpassing the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14:15.00. Isaac Hawkins was second (14:10.28, an NCAA provisional time) while Andrew Hill placed third (14:27.81).
