Stanford, Calif. - Freshman leftfielder Jackie Rinehart went 2-for-3 tonight at the No. 10 Stanford softball team defeated Missouri, 2-1, at the Stanford Invitational. The Cardinal improve to 5-1 overall while the Tigers fall to 2-5 on the year.
Stanford scored both runs in the bottom of the fourth as Rinehart opened the inning with a double to leftfield. After Heather Shook popped up to the pitcher, Catalina Morris tripled to right centerfield to score Rinehart. Sophomore Lauren Lappin grounded out to the shortstop, scoring Morris.
Sophomore pitcher Laura Severson (2-0) pitched a complete game, scattering four hits over seven innings, allowing only one unearned run while striking out nine.
Missouri's Erin Kalka (1-2) took the loss for the Tigers, going six innings with five hits and two runs while striking out nine.
Cardinal Katherine Hoffman came off the bench to go 1-for-1 at the plate for Stanford while Morris and Lappin notched RBI's on the night.
The Tiger's were led by rightfielder Morgan LeCluyse who went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead Missouri.
In other action, Pacific defeated both Santa Clara and Missouri, 2-0 in the early tournament games.
Stanford will be back in action tomorrow against Pacific at 1 p.m. Santa Clara will take on Missouri in the 11 a.m. game.
