Tucson, Ariz. - The No. 7 Stanford softball team (12-2) used the long ball to take care of Oklahoma State (9-5) in the first game of the Worth Wildcat Invitational, 10-0 in Tucson, Arizona. The ten runs is a season-high for the Cardinal as four different players homered for Stanford.
Catcher Jessic Allister homered to left on the heels of a two-run home run by shortstop Lauren Lappin to give Stanford a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
A walk and two hits set up a grand slam for centerfielder Catalina Morris in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 7-0. A subsequent hit by Lappin chased OSU starter Jessica Hoppock (6-2). A double by Allister greeted reliever Kristen Neil and drove in SU's eighth run.
Shanel Scott singled and Courtney Totte doubled to put runners in scoring position in the OSU third, but Stanford pitcher Dana Sorensen (7-2) retired the next three batters to end the threat.
Michelle Thiry knocked a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to make it 10-0. The game ended an inning later on the eight-run rule.
Sorensen scattered two hits over five innings with six strikeouts for the win. Jessica Hoppock took the loss for the Cowgirls, lasting only 1.2 innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits.
