Stanford, Calif. - Senior pitcher Dana Sorensen threw a complete game one-hitter as the 10th ranked Stanford softball team defeated UC Santa Barbara 4-0 this afternoon in the Stanford Round Robin Tournament in Stanford, Calif.
The Cardinal improve to 19-5 on the year while the Gauchos fall to 13-19.
The Cardinal got on the board with four runs in the top of the first inning. Lead off hitter Jackie Rinehart hit an infield single then Katherine Hoffman was hit by a pitch. With runners on the corners, Lauren Lappin doubled both home. Meghan Sickler doubled to bring home Lappin then Leah Nelson singled to left as Sickler scored.
Rinehart, Lappin, Sickler and Elizabeth Bendig each collected two hits for the Cardinal. Lappin, Sickler and Leah Nelson notched an RBI as well.
Sorensen, who improves to 11-3 with the win, allowed just one hit over seven innings with 10 strikeouts on the afternoon. Jennifer Davis took the loss for the Gauchos, going seven innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts.
Stanford will now face the University of Illinois-Chicago in the last game on the day.
UIC defeated UC Santa Barbara, 4-3, earlier today as well.
