STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 9 ranked Stanford University men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Pac-10 play with a convincing 6-1 win over the No. 44 ranked Oregon Ducks Saturday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center. With the win, the Cardinal upped their season record to 11-3 overall, while the Ducks fell to 8-6 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
The Cardinal started the day off by taking two of the three doubles matches to capture the doubles point. The tandem of sophomore All-American KC Corkery and junior Sam Warburg improved their doubles record to 12-2 on the season and 7-1 in dual match competition with an 8-5 win over Oregon's Sven Swinnen and Arron Spencer at the No. 1 doubles spot. Also collecting a doubles win was the freshman duo of Chris Rasmussen and James Wan as they cruised past the Ducks' Chris King and Eric Pickard, 8-1.
In singles competition, the Cardinal took four of the six matches by straight sets. Warburg defeated Swinnen, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 1 singles spot, while Wan eased past Spencer, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 position. Senior captain Carter Morris defeated King, 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot, while Rasmussen dispatched Vladimir Pino, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot. Junior Phil Sheng rallied to defeat Schiller, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (5) in No. 3 singles action.
The Cardinal will face some of the best collegiate Great Britain players in an exhibition match on Monday, before taking on Harvard on Tuesday. The match on Monday is free to the public, while Radiotennis.com will provide a live webcast of the Cardinal's match versus Harvard on Tuesday.
