No. 10 Stanford Upset by No. 29 Cal, 4-3

Berkeley, Calif. - No. 10 Stanford suffered its third straight defeat, falling 5-2 to Cal on Tuesday at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley. The Cardinal fall to 12-6 on the season, while the Bears improve to 7-12 overall.

Cal took two of the three doubles matches to capture the doubles point. Junior James Pade and freshman James Wan fell to Cal's Tyler Browne and Wayne Wong at the No. 2 singles position, 8-6. The duo of Kuni Minato and John Pettit sealed the doubles point for the Bears by knocking off the team of senior Carter Morris and junior Phil Sheng at the No. 3 singles spot, 9-8.

In singles competition, Stanford's Chris Rasmussen, Wan and Pade picked up victories. Wan remained undefeated in dual matches, beating Browne 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 3 singles spot. Wan is now 19-0 in dual matches. Pade picked up the Cardinal's second win in singles play, knocking off Cal's Briaud 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 4 singles slot. Rasmussen captured a three set win over Cal's John Pettit, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, at the No. 6 singles spot.

Warburg fell to Wong at the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-4 and Corkery was defeated by Veress 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. Morris was tripped up by Jake Leivent 6-1, 6-2 in No. 5 singles action.

Stanford will travel to face Arizona State and Arizona this weekend. The Cardinal take on the Sun Devils on Friday afternoon and the Wildcats on Saturday.
